Join United Way this September and October for our Board Connection Fall Session!

Our Board Connection program will be held virtually through our Board Connection portal this Fall. Individuals will receive access to recordings of trainings they registered for through the portal as well.

The cost to attend Board Connection is $500, and many employers will reimburse this cost as a leadership training opportunity. United Way is committed to expanding access to nonprofit board leadership and helping boards better reflect the communities they serve. Thanks to the generous support of our corporate partner Sun Life, sponsorships are available to help expand nonprofit boards to include people from historically underrepresented backgrounds, including people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals and others whose perspectives enrich Board leadership. Limited scholarships are also available for those experiencing financial barriers. For additional information on both of these opportunities, please email engagement@supportunitedway.org.

See below for a brief description of what our trainings will entail:

• Training Session 1 - Nonprofit 101 and Governance: Dive into the critical basics. Featuring nonprofit professionals and board members sharing their advice and most challenging experiences.


• Training Session 2 - Fundraising: Become a fundraising pro! Learn how to fundraise effectively from a nonprofit development professional.


• Training Session 3 - Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging: Become a force for social justice in your organization. Explore what diversity, equity, and inclusion really mean and how you can bring this lens to your board work.


• Training Session 4 - Finance: Get into the nitty-gritty. Covering nonprofit finance including the 990 form and what a healthy nonprofit budget looks like.


• Training Session 5 - Agency Open House: Meet nonprofit agencies and explore open nonprofit board positions.
